About Astown

Astown is an AI-powered reporting and monitoring platform that connects startups with investors. Founders get free KPI tracking and AI-generated reports; investors pay to monitor portfolio health in real-time. Our mission is to close the visibility gap between startups and their investors.

Definitions

  • Service refers to the Astown website, platform, tools, and features
  • User, You, or Your refers to the person or entity using Astown
  • Founder or Business refers to startup users who track metrics and generate reports
  • Investor refers to fund users who monitor portfolio companies
  • Content means any information, data, metrics, or reports you provide
  • Account refers to a registered user account
  • Organization means a business entity or investment fund registered on Astown

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Astown, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

User Types

For Founders (Business Users)

Founders can use Astown to:

  • Connect data sources (Stripe, QuickBooks, Xero, Google Analytics, Mixpanel)
  • Track KPIs and business metrics
  • Receive AI-powered metric explanations and insights
  • Generate AI-assisted investor reports
  • Control which data is visible to investors
  • Manage team members and access

For Investors

Investors can use Astown to:

  • View portfolio company metrics (as permitted by founders)
  • Monitor portfolio health indicators
  • Track reporting compliance
  • Generate LP-ready portfolio reports
  • Manage fund team members

Account Terms

Account Creation

  • You must provide accurate and complete information
  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account
  • You must have authority to bind your organization if registering on behalf of a company
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account
  • You are responsible for all activities under your account
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access

Account Termination

  • You may close your account at any time through settings or by contacting us
  • We may suspend or terminate your account for violating these Terms
  • Upon termination, your right to use the Service immediately ceases
  • We may retain certain data as required by law or for legitimate business purposes

Permitted Use

You may use Astown to:

  • Track and report business metrics
  • Generate investor reports and updates
  • Monitor portfolio company performance
  • Collaborate with team members
  • Export data and reports for legitimate business purposes

Prohibited Use

You may NOT use Astown to:

  • Provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information
  • Manipulate or misrepresent metrics or financial data
  • Access data you are not authorized to view
  • Attempt to bypass privacy controls or access restrictions
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
  • Use automated tools to scrape or extract data
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without permission
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Use the Service for any illegal or fraudulent purposes

Content and Data

Your Content

  • You retain all rights to the data and content you provide
  • By using Astown, you grant us a license to process, store, and display your content as necessary to provide the Service
  • You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the data you provide
  • You confirm you have the right to share any data you upload or connect

AI-Generated Content

  • AI-generated insights, explanations, and reports are provided for informational purposes
  • You are responsible for reviewing and verifying AI-generated content before sharing
  • AI outputs should not be relied upon as financial, legal, or investment advice

Data Accuracy

  • Astown displays data as provided by you or synced from connected integrations
  • We do not verify the accuracy of user-provided or integration-synced data
  • Founders are responsible for ensuring their reported data is accurate
  • Investors should perform their own due diligence

Privacy and Data Control

Founder Controls

Founders have granular control over data visibility:

  • Set visibility per metric (visible or hidden from investors)
  • Control which investors can access your data
  • Review access logs to see who viewed what

Investor Access

Investors can only view:

  • Data explicitly shared by founders in their portfolio
  • Aggregated portfolio metrics and health indicators
  • Reports approved by founders

Integrations

Third-Party Services

When you connect third-party services (Stripe, QuickBooks, etc.):

  • You authorize us to access data from those services as necessary
  • Third-party terms and privacy policies apply to their services
  • We are not responsible for third-party service availability or data accuracy
  • You can disconnect integrations at any time

OAuth Connections

  • We use industry-standard OAuth for secure connections
  • We do not store your third-party login credentials
  • Connections can be revoked at any time through your account settings

Pricing and Payment

Founders (Free Tier)

  • Core features are free for founders
  • Free includes: integrations, AI insights, report generation, privacy controls
  • We may introduce premium features for founders in the future

Investors (Paid Plans)

  • Investor features require a paid subscription
  • Pricing is per fund, based on portfolio size and features
  • Payment is processed through Stripe
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled

Refunds

  • Monthly subscriptions: No refunds for partial months
  • Annual subscriptions: Prorated refund available within first 30 days

Service Availability

No Warranty

Astown is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted or error-free service
  • Specific uptime or availability
  • Accuracy of AI-generated content
  • Completeness of synced integration data

Service Changes

We reserve the right to:

  • Modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service
  • Update these Terms at any time
  • Change pricing with reasonable notice
  • Add or remove features

We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • We are not liable for decisions made based on data or AI insights in our platform
  • Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the past 12 months
  • We are not responsible for third-party integration failures or data inaccuracies

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Astown and its affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of another party
  • Data or content you provide through the Service
  • Your misrepresentation of business metrics or information

Intellectual Property

Our Content

  • Astown's design, code, logos, and branding are our intellectual property
  • You may not copy, modify, or reverse-engineer the Service
  • You may not use our trademarks without written permission

Your Content

  • You retain ownership of your data and content
  • Generated reports are yours to use and share
  • You grant us a license to use your content to provide and improve the Service

Confidentiality

Business Data

We treat all founder business data as confidential:

  • Data is only shared with explicitly authorized investors
  • Our employees access data only as necessary to provide support
  • We do not share individual company data with third parties

Security Incidents

In the event of a data breach affecting your data, we will:

  • Notify affected users within 72 hours
  • Provide details of what data was affected
  • Take immediate steps to mitigate the incident

Dispute Resolution

  • We encourage you to contact us first to resolve any issues at contact@updates.astown.co
  • If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be resolved through binding arbitration
  • These Terms are governed by the laws of Delaware, USA

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and Astown regarding the Service.

No Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not be considered a waiver of those rights.

Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
